Sunday Kitchen #172 Birthday Cake

It was my grandmother’s birthday today, so I decided to make her a cake.

I put one and a half cups of flour into a bowl with:
3 tablespoons of cocoa
a teaspoon of baking soda
a cup of sugar
and half a teaspoon of salt.

I mixed all that together, then added:
5 tablespoons of oil
a tablespoon of vinegar
a teaspoon of vanilla
and a cup of water.

Then I mixed it again and I poured it into a cake tin and baked it at 175 degrees Celsius for 35 minutes.

Then I took it out of the oven and stabbed it with a fork. It seemed to be cooked enough so I waited for it to cool down, then spread icing on the top and wrote 88 with coconut. I decorated the side with slices of almond and coconut.

I took the cake to my grandmother’s house and put candles in the middle of the eights.

It turned out I hadn’t quite thought through the cake decoration … because when she blew out the candles coconut flew everywhere. Oops.
